What do believers and demons have in common?

Evening Y'all! I pray this post encourages you and gives God glory! Got suggested topics you want me to write about? Please comment below or email me at info@mocatoday.com.

Well friends, it's been a few months since my last post. How have you been? Please share in the comments! I've been good... I just felt led to pause on posting, further study, be more present, and spend more time with God. I find that sometimes rest is required to refuel and hear from God.

During my studies, a frequent truth that kept coming up is that the main difference (A big, saving difference though!) between believers and demons (also known as fallen angels, evil spirits, Satan's workers) is that believers are hearers and doers of God's Word while demons are hearers of God's Word but doers of Satan's will. (Remember, Satan is a fallen angel, not a fallen god.)

What am I saying?

I'm saying to truly be a member of God's family, acknowledging Jesus Christ is real and acknowledging His Word is true is not enough. Yes, these two acknowledgements should be true in our lives, as they are indeed tangible fruits of being a Jesus follower. We must also remember that doing God's Will making Him our sole Lord and personal Savior within all aspects of our lives — are the critical components that set us apart from demons and make us members of God's family.

In other words, while demons only do the will of Satan and have made Satan their master, believers are called to do God's Will only and make Jesus Christ their personal Lord and Savior:

Pointing to His disciples, He said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." ~Matthew 12:49-50 (NIV)
But He said, “On the contrary, blessed (happy, favored by God) are those who hear the word of God and continually observe it.” Luke 11:28 (AMP)
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. ~Romans 2:13 (ESV)

Let's examine my points a bit deeper:

  • Like believers, demons acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Son of God:

And suddenly they [demons] cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?" ~Matthew 8:29 (NKJV)
When the sun went down, everyone who had anyone sick with some ailment or other brought them to Him. One by one He placed His hands on them and healed them. Demons left in droves, screaming, "Son of God! You’re the Son of God!" But He shut them up, refusing to let them speak because they knew too much, knew Him to be the Messiah. ~Luke 4:41 (MSG)
  • Like believers, demons recognize that God has total, complete authority over all things above and below. The Book of Job is a great book to further study this point.

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." ~Luke 22:31-32 (NKJV)
Job and Peter were hedged about by the Lord— Satan couldn’t get to them without the Lord first removing a measure of His protection. We know that God cares for all of His children, so it is reasonable to assume that God has a measure of protection surrounding each of us. And we know that, ultimately, God controls everything in the universe, including Satan. "In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). ~gotquestions.org
  • Like believers, demons know scripture.

And he said [mockingly] to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'He will command His angels concerning You [to serve, care for, protect and watch over You]; and they will lift you up on their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.'" ~Matthew 4:6 (NKJV)

Therefore, hearing and doing the will of God is so important folks! If as believers, we spend a lifetime simply knowing God's Word and acknowledge His Will. But, never actually become doers of His Word too, we are no different than demons and are not true children of God. Hearing and doing God's Will matters!

Thoughts on my points? Please share in the comments. I'd love to hear from you!

Remember, it's about progression not perfection!

God loves you! With Him, you got this!

Until next post, may God give you His peace and blessings!
