New Year. Fresh Start. Let's Get It!

Afternoon Y'all! I pray this post encourages you and gives God glory! Got suggested topics you want me to write about? Please comment below or email me at info@mocatoday.com.

Happy New Year! We made it to 2021! Thank you Jesus!

Today being the first Tuesday of 2021, I think it's fitting to start off intentional and treat January as a planning month comprised of three major factors:

  • Increased prayer, fasting, and studying God's Word— There's no better way to enjoy intimacy with God and hear from Him. Let's seek further direction and discernment, confirming God's will and goals for us.

  • Lots of rest and recharge Like the saying goes, "We can't pour from an empty cup." Therefore, it is critically important we make time to rest daily and recharge often.

But when you get some rest, and get more rested, you have more energy, mental clarity, resilience for the hard things, patience, and wholehearted caring for others. ~Psychology Today
  • Goals planning— First, we must consult with the Lord and commit to His Word and Will. Next, we pursue only what He's laid on our hearts: We write out the provided vision and goals for each area that God has addressed and then take action. For example, you may have a vision statement, goals, and success criteria for each of these areas: spiritual, marriage/relationships, family, career, financial, health, personal development, business, etc.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. ~Matthew 6:33-34 (NKJV)

Writer Kristen Summers shares 8 Biblical Keys to Goal Setting:

  1. Faith. We serve a big God who can accomplish the impossible (Matthew 19:26). There is nothing He can’t do. We can believe that He journeys with us and always has our best in mind (Hebrews 13:9). He is trustworthy and faithful (1 Corinthians 6:9).

  2. Humility. We never want to be in a position of demanding that things work out or that all our goals are accomplished exactly as we say. The Lord’s Will always trumps our own (Proverbs 16:3). We need to be sure our attitude is one of humility before our holy and mighty God (Proverbs 22:4).

  3. Commitment. We need to commit ourselves to the tasks at hand (1 Kings 8:61).

  4. Diligence. Goals often require hard work. We need to be diligent in our effort (Proverbs 13:4).

  5. Perseverance. We will face setbacks and disappointments, but need to persevere through rough times (Proverbs 24:10). Don’t give up!

  6. Alignment with God’s Word and His Will. Are we within the parameters of God’s Word and His character (Romans 12)?

  7. Forethought and planning. Have we done the appropriate homework before starting our task? Have we counted the cost?

  8. Motivation. We need to ask the hard questions: What is our goal and why? Do we have selfish motives? Are we operating with a healthy, Christ-centered heart?

Given above, how is your 2021 planning coming along? I'd love to hear from you!

May 2021 be a fruitful year where we:

  • Continue to intimately know God (Proverbs 8:17, Jeremiah 9:23-24, 2 Peter 3:18)

  • Allow the Holy Spirit to increase in us (Galatians 5:16)

  • Mature in being faithful servants, Christ ambassadors (Matthew 25:21, 2 Corinthians 5)
