It's all about perspective... What's yours?

Morning Y'all! I pray this post encourages you and gives God glory! Got suggested topics you want me to write about? Please comment below or email me at info@mocatoday.com.

perspective

The other day, I was having a really tough time. What seemed like out of nowhere, I began to feel extremely overwhelmed, afraid, sad, melancholy, way over my head. I shed a few tears out of frustration, looked at myself in the mirror, and knew I needed a heart-to-heart with God.

In that moment, I knew there was nothing I nor anyone else could do to "fix me" or make it better except the Holy One, Jesus Christ. So, I went to God in prayer and poured my little heart out... I asked God to calm my spirit, give me peace, renew my strength, and show me how to navigate through such tough waters. I went to bed expectant and confident that God heard my prayer and would somehow make a way.

How do you think I felt the next day?

Well, I woke up the next day and noticed I felt different. My spirit was much calmer and I no longer felt immense sadness or overwhelmed. It was interesting because as I thought about things, my circumstances had not changed at all. Yet, I was feeling much better.

Why?

Because literally overnight, God gave me a new perspective! I went to bed with a doom-and-gloom perspective (or point of view) and woke up the next day with a totally different perspective...

That's right! God gifted me a fresh outlook, a new way of thinking that declared— "My ability to successfully get through or overcome my current circumstances all depends on the perspective I choose to have."

Then, God began reminding me of these truths:

  • It's about progression, not perfection. I am growing!

  • I have God. Therefore, I can truly do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

  • No matter what, stay planted with God. Don't walk away from Him or lower Him on my priority list.

  • Yes, it's been a little tough lately. But, God is and always been with me (Psalm 16:8). If He brought me to it, He'll bring me through it. I will be ok.

  • Remember who I am. I am a child of God (John 1:12)!

  • This too shall pass (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). Trust God with each step of my day.

  • Stop trying to lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Give God full control over my life.

  • Seek God first (Matthew 6:33). Take in what I can as He leads me.

  • I can't add a day to my life, so stop worrying about what tomorrow may bring (Matthew 6:27, 34). Appreciate your many blessings in the present. Although each day has its own set of challenges, allow God to lead each step of my way, even if that means He allows me to fail at something or fall time-to-time. The good and the bad God allows or causes to happen will be used for my good anyway (Romans 8:28).

  • It's ok to say, "No." Do what you can and what you can't do, don't do. Stay focused and intentional (Ecclesiastes 3:1-22).

  • Be grateful. I am loved (John 3:16).

Needless to say, after being showered with the above truths and receiving them in my spirit, I felt restored. I felt renewed. I felt strengthened to fight on another day.

I was smiling. I shared the good news with my friends and family.

Ultimately, I ended up having a great day. Not because my circumstances changed in any way that day, but because God changed my perspective. Thank you Jesus!

Sometimes, it's all about perspective!
