Morning Y'all! I pray this post encourages you and gives God glory! Got suggested topics you want me to write about? Please comment below or email me at info@mocatoday.com.
Ever heard the saying, 'If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything'? I recall hearing that throughout my childhood. But honestly, it did not really connect with me until well into my adulthood...
Fast forward to today, the thing is― If we don't genuinely understand how much God loves us,
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. ~John 3:16 (NIV)
If we don't understand how God sees us, along with what our identity in Christ practically looks, we too, can become victims that fall for anything. "Anything" being any person, place, and/or thing that we engage in or "entertain" outside of God's will and assignment for us.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. ~Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
Hence, there is something extremely powerful to living out who we are in Christ and standing for Jesus within our private and public lives.
We're to take this revealed truth [Thank you Holy Spirit!] to:
Further grow our relationship with the Lord to strengthen our identity in Him.
Discover our spiritual gifts and use them to glorify God, bless and serve others.
Walk by the Holy Spirit and live our lives as God calls us.
Too often, people base their identities on what they do (from their jobs to their roles in relationships), defining themselves by those pursuits. But by doing so, they significantly limit their lives. The truth is that God intends for all people to find their identity in Christ. ~Whitney Hopler
In a helpful article, writer Mary Armand shares, "The answer to 'what is our identity in Christ' is found when we realize how God sees us and what God says about us."
Armand goes on to share 3 Key Attributes about our Identity in Christ:
We are forgiven. We are forgiven regardless of what we have done in our lives; all can soak in the forgiveness that Christ offers.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ~1 John 1:9 (ESV)
We are loved. It can be difficult to believe in God’s unconditional love for us when it is compared to the conditional love that is so frequently offered [and experienced between people].
Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. ~Psalm 36:5 (NLT)
We are called. We are called by God to embrace our identity in Christ and walk in love, righteousness, and purpose. The rewards are unending; not the type of reward that brings temporary satisfaction but a deep soul satisfaction [that is eternal].
He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. ~2 Timothy 1:9 (CSB)
Gotquestions.org explains,
All of this is the ideal— the character of a mature follower of Christ. One of the greatest blessings about our identity in Christ is the grace we’re given in order to grow into the spiritual maturity that truly reflects our new identity (Philippians 1:6). Our lives in light of our identity in Christ are filled with a heavenly Father, a large, loving family, and the understanding that we are citizens of another kingdom and not of this earth. ~gotquestions.org
Given above, do you know who you are? Not as you personally define yourself or how others define you. Instead, do you know who you are in God's eyes?
How has your identity in Christ influenced what you now "fall" for or allow in your life? Has your identity in Christ shaped how you think, act, and feel?
I'd love to hear from you!
Remember, it's about progression not perfection! God loves you! With Him, you got this! Until next post, may God give you His peace and blessings!
~Natasha
