Fear slowing or holding you down?

Afternoon Y'all! I pray this post encourages you and gives God glory! Got suggested topics you want me to write about? Please comment below or email me at info@mocatoday.com.

Continuing with planning topics this month, I want to talk about fear today. Yes, fear (the feeling or condition of being afraid) is a genuine emotion that often comes in various forms and disguises... However, it's important to understand that the Word of God teaches the source of fear is the enemy, Satan himself, not God.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. ~2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. ~1 John 4:18 (NKJV)

Therefore, we should not give Satan the power to let his fear delay or stop us from doing God's will in our lives.

I often say,

If you are certain it's God's will, do it anyway, even if you have to do it afraid! Trust God and push through the fear. Gain the strength and courage you need from your faith in the Lord.
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. ~Psalm 56:3 (NKJV)
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. ~Isaiah 41:10 (CSB)

In the book Seasons of a Woman's Life, Lois Evans provides three practical steps to overcome fear:

  1. We make up our minds to fight our fears with the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). This is the matter of the will. Fear often happens because of our lack of faith in God and our ignorance about His Word. The Lord has given us the capacity to overcome our fears by memorizing Scripture and quoting it when we are afraid. There's real power in the Word of God! Remember what Jesus used when the devil tempted Him in the wilderness (Matthew 4)?

  2. We choose to walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh. We have to realize that fear comes not only from the devil; it also rises from the flesh. "I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want." ~Galatians 5:16-17 (CSB)

  3. We can claim victory over fear every minute of the day. Every time you feel a twinge of fear, claim His promise: "I will never leave you or abandon you. (Hebrews 13:5)"

Evans goes on to describe how maturing faith produces victorious Christian living and shared this helpful concept—

Fear activates the devil.

Faith activates the Lord.

Given above, how are you handling fear in your life? Are you allowing it to delay or stop you from doing what God is calling you to do? I'd love to hear from you!

Amen sis @Toni! I have to do the same. May God continue strengthening our faith that decreases or removes fear's power and influence in our lives.
